Most people take their first yoga class expecting it to be a fitness class. They soon discover that it is so much more. Yoga cultivates breath and body awareness, along with a sense of calm in the body and mind. Physical and emotional tension subsides and the body begins to move with ease. To take a step back, take a deep breath and slow exhale, in the midst of our hectic, non-stop life-styles, has a huge impact. Yoga regulates the nervous-system, bringing us into the present moment and out of the future and past. The more we train our mind to be in this mindful state, the more this state ripples into everyday life; taking our yoga practice off the mat and into the rest of our daily life. The more present we become, the less we feel worried or anxious about the future and the more we can let go of experiences of the past. It is also in this state that the body is in homeostasis, when all systems can properly function and the body can heal itself most efficiently. This may be the most important and required benefit of yoga. I am passionate about teaching yoga and qigong to all age groups; from children to seniors and believe they can be an enjoyed practice throughout one’s life-time.
